Strange, how quickly some people make you
want to peel back the blinds across
you eyes and let them come in ~ without
even knocking.
You let them browse though your dreams,
your loves, and fears, and things.
... Along the dark corridors to almost cold, cob-webbed rooms
~ blowing away the dust, fondly passing
artifacts, shining shapes ... forgotten treasures.
And other warm moments in sunnier rooms ~
sitting, surrealistically, on bright yellow dustcovers.
Sipping sweet, well-aged port. Warming limbs.
Together. But separate. Cosy.
Such an urgency to be closer and honestly sharing,
I sometimes find that I�m still excitedly moving
to yet another room, gesticulating, when
I all-of-a-sudden notice that she�s not there anymore.
Retracing my steps, I find her fast asleep in the sun.
I cover her legs with a yellow dustcover.
She smiles in her sleep. Far away.
Or maybe ~
I find her in earnest conversation with a stranger
some way back ~~ her eyes wide open to him
to come in,
while he pretends not to notice a thing.
(I fade into the wallpaper.
Wishing, once again, that I�d had
the forethought to lock the door earlier.
