About Him
At my best, I am witty and entertaining and warm. I work hard when I work, so after hours I like to have fun, although I'm usually game for an in-depth discussion if the subject and the person I'm talking to are engaging.
I love books and movies and TV series, basically I love a story with a clever plot and absorbing characters.
I love listening to music, leaning towards moody, melancholic stuff, although I also enjoy good party tunes - at a wedding I'm usually on the dance floor till the bitter end, and I've even taken a few ballroom dancing classes :)
I'm competitive, sometimes too competitive, but mostly I confine it to the hockey or cricket field, or to the poker table.
I took up surfing fifteen years ago when I returned to SA from London, and I love being in the water. If there are no waves you'll find me trail running, playing hockey, hiking or mountain biking.
If I had to choose I'd pick cats over dogs, although I don't have any pets at the moment.
My interests range from philosophy to technology to neuroscience, meditation and yoga.
Why would you want to get to know me? I've done a lot of interesting things in my life - worked in corporate finance, politics, and as an entrepreneur, I've read widely, I don't have a lot of surface bullshit you have to break through, and once you're in my inner circle you can be sure I've got your back. I think I'd at least go for coffee with myself :)
About His Ideal Match
As I saw someone else write in this space, it's sort of silly to write down a list of criteria, because we're so often blindsided by the people we fall for - however, if I look back at the girlfriends I've really loved, they were all smart, funny, warm, open minded, passionate about what they did... And willing to put up with my nonsense. ;)
Some non negotiables - you must like books, movies and cats... and the beach and the outdoors generally... and not be afraid of swimming when it's cold, or hiking in the rain... You must not be a racist or a bigot, in fact if you don't describe yourself as liberal we're probably not going to get on for very long... You should love learning and always be open to new ideas - you can feel strongly that something is right or wrong, but at least be willing to have your ideas challenged..
Have I become too demanding? Perhaps.. But the non negotiables only apply to girlfriends, we could always go for a friendly coffee and just agree to disagree about whether cats or dogs are better..
